Physicist Robert Lang began his career at NASA where he specialised in lasers, publishing a Ph.D. thesis and amassing several patents on the subject. However, his real passion since childhood was origami, which he left NASA to persue in 2001.
Since then he has become a world-leading expert in the field. He has gone on to apply origami principles and patterns to revolutionise the approach to engineering problems from air-bags to rockets.
