This year's Information is Beautiful Awards 2018 has seen an influx of entries around activism, charity, disasters and relief. In resonse to this, the new category 'Humanitarian' has been created.
Particularly pertinent topics this year include 'Woman and Girls', 'Refugees and Migrants' as well as 'Eco, Nature and Climate'.
One particularly striking entry is National Geographic's 'What Happens to The Plastic We Throw Out'. Combining video, infographics and bite-size descriptive text, the piece creates a powerful narrative which can be scrolled through and explored by the viewer at their own pace.
